ABOUT OUR RACE

The Hawthorn Half Day Relay and Ultra began in 2006 as a 12-hour event for Teams of 6, Teams of 2 and individual runners. In 2015 we added a 6-hour event for Teams of 3 and individual runners. Both events start at 7:00 a.m. There are multiple divisions and age groups in which you can compete. Runners compete on a 5K loop throughout the day. Once there is less than 30 minutes to go in the race, runners will only be allowed to go out on the "short course"; 1K for the 6-hour event and 1/2 mile for the 12-hour event. Runners must cross the finish line prior to time expiring in order to receive credit for that lap. The winners in each division/age group are those that complete the most miles in the allotted time.

We provide cold Gatorade, cold water, salty snacks, fruit, nuts, etc. throughout the day. Updates are provided approximately every hour, starting at 10:00 a.m. We normally have a massage therapist onsite beginning around 1:00 p.m.

All participants receive a custom finisher's medal. Awards for the 6-hour race will be presented around 2:00 p.m. After the 12-hour race there is a meal provided for the 12-hour participants and awards will be presented around 7:45 p.m.

2015 RECAP

After a week of calling for thunderstorms on race day, we ended up with hot, humid, rain-free weather. The heat made it a challenge to break any records, but we did have one. Congratulations to Karen Kramer who broke the 12 Hour Record in the Female Walkers Division by walking 45.40 miles to break the record she had set back in 2010. We celebrated our 10th Annual Event by adding a 6 hour race and a 3 hour race. In the Team of 6 Division, the High School team, F.A.R.T. (Fast at Running Team) were the overall winners.

Below is a list of the winners. All the results can be found on our results page by going to the tab at the top of the page.

Overall Male Winner (12 hours) - Mark Weghorst 72.80 miles
Overall Female Winner (12 hours) - Brenda Johnson 60.90 miles
Overall Female Winner (6 hours) - Julie Woods 31.62 miles
